The project "Gender Mainstreaming into the Media Policy" envisages:
1. Quantifiable and qualitative research/monitoring of mass media
through gender mainstreaming approach. 2. Preparation of analytical
materials directed to the revealing of gender stereotypes (handbook for media
workers based on Ukrainian materials) 3. Implementation of interactive
training for key media decision makers by using the results of January-April
2003 monitoring and the handbook developed. Project objective:
Promote gender equality in Ukraine through gender monitoring of the media, media
handbook on gender mainstreaming and interactive seminar.
Main project components to be implemented:
1. Gender monitoring of the media on the coverage of gender issues
(portrayal of women and men) with special attention paid to gender
stereotyping. 2. Comparative analysis of the results of the previous
monitoring published in the Gender Analysis of Ukrainian Society (UNDP Office in
Ukraine 1999). 3. Preparation of recommendations for the media
concerning its influence on gender sensitive coverage in
media. 4. Preparation of the handbook (for the seminar for key media
decision makers) on gender mainstreaming approach into the media policy using
the examples from the previous monitoring of media and developing case studies
for the media workers. 5. Presentation of the developed interactive
strategy and educational materials during the seminar for key media decision
makers. (April 2003) 6. Preparation of the materials (ready for
printing) and publishing of the gender monitoring results for 2003.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Experience in strategy developing and implementation of the media
monitoring demonstrated by previous researches 2. Proved awareness in
gender issues 3. Experience in organization of the interactive trainings
for the media 4. Experience of cooperation with the international
organizations 5. The organization should be ready to cooperate closely
to the UNDP Equal Opportunities Project experts, should have monthly meeting
with the Equal Opportunities Project staff and be ready to collaborate and make
adjustments to its researches if it is required by Project Manager or Gender
expert.
Expected results:
1. Gender monitoring of the media during 2003 that reflects the progress
in gender relations in the Ukrainian society in the area of mass media during
last 5 years, namely the gender stereotypes in electronic and printed mass
media, advertisements and the role of men and women in decision making in the
media. The research should include the statistic data that concern the men and
women in these spheres and have specific recommendations for key persons on
gender mainstreaming approaches in sphere of media. 2. Gender monitoring
of such as "Kiev news" (Kievskie vedomosti), "Today" (Segodnja), "Mirror of the
week" (Dzerkalo tyzhnya), "The Day "(Den`), "Voice of Ukraine"(Golos
Ukrayiny), "Youth of Ukraine"(Molod’ Ukrayiny) for using during the seminar for
Media officials. Duration of the monitoring: January —
April. 3. Developed and published handbook (for seminar for the key
media decision makers) on gender mainstreaming approach into the informational
policy of the media using the examples from the monitoring of the Ukrainian mass
media and developed strategies for the media concerning the gender approach
implementation, and interactive exercises for using during the trainings for the
media workers (the so-called "case-studies") 4. The interactive strategy
of studying on gender mainstreaming is developed and presented during the
seminar for the key media decision makers. (April, 2003) 5. The
manuscript is prepared and the Gender monitoring of the media 2003 is published
with graphs, diagrams, photos and illustrations of the describe
context. 6. The report on project results (also the financial
report)
