qualified candidate to fill the position of
Communication
Assistant
Location:Kyiv, Ukraine
Purpose of the
post:
Under the
supervision of the Assistant Communication
Officer, the Communication Assistant assists in the
planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and
communication programme, to promote respect for children’s rights and support
UNICEF’s mission in Ukraine.
Major duties and
responsibilities:
Assists in developing and maintaining close collaboration with the mass
media as well as with groups and organizations that support the achievement of
UNICEF’s advocacy and communication objectives and activities.
Provides day-to-day assistance in handling mass media relations including
organizing media events, interviews, and development and dissemination of
information to the media.
Assists in drafting and editing articles, press releases, feature stories
and other advocacy and information materials for both web-based and
traditional media.
Assists in the production of advocacy and communication materials (films,
videos, audio-visual materials) and oversees the qualitative aspects of
production (quality control, translations, reviews of layout and graphic
design).
Assists in writing feature stories on UNICEF related issues and
activities.
Assists in the production of UNICEF printed materials and
publications.
Assists in the production of materials for the UNICEF Ukraine
web-site.
Travels within Ukraine as required.
Performs other tasks as required.
Qualifications
and Experience Required
- University degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or
equivalent professional work experience in the field of communication combined
with a university degree in a related field.
- Three years of practical professional work experience in communication,
and/or print and broadcast media.
- Knowledge of current theories of and practices in communication research,
and the role of mass media.
- Ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information.
- General ability to draft clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in
written and oral form; specific skills in writing press releases and
articles/stories for print and electronic media.
- Ability to assist in managing relationships with media representatives,
government officials and other UNICEF partners.
- Good oral and written English, Russian and Ukrainian communication skills.
- Experience with technical assistance projects an asset.
- Ability to work in a team and under frequent pressure and to meet
deadlines.
- Proactive, energetic and optimistic approach to challenges.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
