TERMS OF REFERENCE

  • Job Title: Operations Analyst (Agronomist)
  • Project: Vinnytsya Fruit Supply Chain Development Project
  • Grade: E
  • Reports to: Project Manager
  • Duty Station: Vinnytsya, Ukraine

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is the private sector arm of The World Bank Group. IFC’s mission is to promote private sector investment in emerging economies as a way to help reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC does this through financing ventures in partnership with investors, and through technical assistance in partnership with donors. IFC’s technical assistance seeks (a) to promote private sector investment, (b) to support the growth of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), and (c) to improve the business-enabling environment. Agribusiness is a key focus of IFC in Ukraine because of the country’s rich agricultural potential, and the positive impact that agribusiness development has on people who reside in rural areas.

Vinnytsya Fruit Supply Chain Development Project: The Project will center on the supply zone around the Austrian investment, “Podilljaobst”, and other fruit processors in Vinnytsya Oblast, and will facilitate increased supply of fruit to these processors and other markets, by assisting local farms (a) to improve fruit production, (b) to improve farm management, (c) to develop good business practices, (d) to access finance, and (e) to create sustainable linkages to processors and other markets.

The Project is expected to operate for 24 months.

The Objectives of the Project are as follows:

  • Improve farm productivity and quality
  • Develop farm management skills
  • Support farms with legal issues
  • Promote improvements in the regulatory environment
  • Provide an information portal on agribusiness in Vinnytsya
  • Primary Job Activities: The Operations Analyst (Agronomist) will work within the Project Team, particularly the Business Development Specialist, to advise farmers on technical improvements in the context of overall business planning. The Operations Analyst (Agronomist) will also be responsible for designing and delivering training programs for larger audiences with the assistance of the Public Education Specialist.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Survey fruit farms in Vinnytsya region to identify key technical issues
    • Provide consultations to farms on technical improvements that improve business performance
    • Design and deliver training programs to farms
    • Develop materials (articles, presentations, etc) for the public education program
    • Develop relationships with industry participants (banks, input suppliers, markets, etc)
    • Write reports, documents, presentations and other tasks as directed by the Project Manager

    Requirements/ Qualifications:

    • University degree, or relevant agronomy education, on modern fruit production or similar
    • Three or more years experience in fruit production and/or direct farm consultation or similar
    • Excellent Ukrainian and Russian language skills required; English is highly desirable
    • Computer literate and strong presentation skills required
    • Relevant experience in a private sector environment is highly desirable
