Project: Southern Ukraine Vegetable Supply Chain Development Project

INTRODUCTION
The International Finance Corporation (“IFC”), a member of the
World Bank Group, promotes sustainable private sector investment in
emerging economies to help reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC does
this through financing private sector ventures in partnership with private
investors, and through technical assistance in partnership with donors.
IFC’s Private Enterprise Partnership (“PEP”) provides technical
assistance to the private sector in the former Soviet Union, in partnership with
various donors. PEP’s focus is promoting private sector investment, supporting
the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and improving the
business-enabling environment.
THE PROJECT
IFC will implement the Southern Ukraine Vegetable Supply Chain Development
Project (“the Project”) in
partnership with the Government of Sweden (Sida). The objective of this Technical Assistance project is to develop the
supply chain in Mykolayiv region and neighbouring regions of Ukraine. This will
be achieved by mentoring private farmers in business management, introducing new
technologies, facilitating access to finance, improving linkages between farmers
and markets, creating public awareness of best practices, and many other
aspects. The objective is to improve long term farming viability, increase
incomes and employment, and boost the quality of life in rural areas.
A description of the mandate agreed with the donor is included in the
agreement between IFC and Sida. Additionally a full description of the Project
is contained in the proposal approved by Sida.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Project Manager will be responsible for the implementation
of the Project in accordance with the agreement between IFC and the Government
of Sweden. The position is based in Mykolayiv in Ukraine. The Project Manager
will report to the Senior Operations Manager – Agribusiness.
More specifically, the Project Manager is expected:
1. To achieve the Project Objectives as described
2. To manage the project budget and be accountable for all
project expenditure
3. To recruit and supervise all project staff
4. To develop and maintain sound relationships with project
partners, for example, finance and market institutions, local authorities, and
so on — and ensure that maximum synergy is achieved between their respective
objectives, and the Project’s objectives
5. To provide regular written and other reports as required –
to IFC, the donor and others
6. To cooperate with other departments within IFC as may be
requested from time to time
7. To give particular attention to gender development within
the context and practical realities of the Project, and in accordance with the
mandate with Sida
8. To ensure compliance with all IFC policies and regulations
in the conduct of the Project
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
An individual with a successful track record in management, relevant
experience in agribusiness/business management, a good understanding of the
fruit and vegetable sector, project management experience — preferably in
transition economies, and excellent communication skills in English (written and
oral). Ukrainian or Russian language is desirable, but not essential. Skills and
experience in training will be an added recommendation.
