Programme Assistant
within UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and Development
Programme
The mission of the UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and
Development Programme is to support the Government of Ukraine in mitigating the
lasting consequences of Chernobyl by working to implement the
recommendations of A Strategy for Recovery. This involves both building the
capacity of governmental institutions to lead national Chernobyl programmes and
working at the community level to improve the capacity of local people to play
an active role in their own development. CRDP works to promote Chernobyl recovery and
development in three result areas:
Policy Advice and Development –
supporting policy and institutional change to promote effective recovery in
affected areas.
Community Self-governance and
Development – supporting local people in affected communities organize into
self-governing community organizations dedicated to leading local efforts for
social, economic and ecological recovery through participatory development
planning.
Institutional Support Systems –
enhancing the capacity of local social service institutions in the Chernobyl region to
promote community-based social, economic and ecological
development.

- Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Programme
Manager the incumbent will perform the following
functions:
Assists the UNDP Chornobyl Programme Manager in
implementing Program activities envisaged in the Program work plan.
Contributes to the Program work plans development as well as
to current program activities.
Compiles information from records and reports on the
Community Development Centers (CDCs) and other partners’ performance and
contributes to preparation of periodic and ad hoc reports on the Program
operation.
Maintains contacts with CDCs staff and keeps them informed
on all ongoing Programme activities.
Compiles and maintains data and information on all Program
activities, prepares and maintains records, documents and work plans including
those of the CDCs.
Maintains contacts with governmental institutions and NGOs
dealing with Chornobyl issues.
Organizes meetings for Programme Manager with
representatives of all institutions involved in the Programme implementation.
Contributes to the preparation of reports, project documents
and submissions to Government by providing information, preparing tables and
drafting relatively routine sections.
Prepares background information for various Program events –
UN officials’ visits, round table discussions with the Government and other
relevant institutions.
Distributes information on UN Chornobyl Programme activities
to UN agencies and to governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Participates in briefing and debriefing of programme
personnel.
Scrutinizes plans of operations, exchange of letters and
takes appropriate follow-up actions.
Assists in the administrative processing of Government
requests for assistance.
Participates in the meeting, round tables etc. organized in
line with the Program work plan, prepares minutes and distributes them
among the participants.
Contributes to preparation and delivery of training
session, seminars, conferences and other events in line with the Program work
plan.
Reports to UN Chornobyl Programme Manager.
Performs other functions and duties as required.
Requirements for the post:
- Proactive, energetic, committed and innovative
approach;
- Experience of work in the sphere of Chornobyl
catastrophe consequences mitigation;
- Experience of work within international
organizations:
- Excellent writing, communication and organization
skills;
- Fluency in English (spoken and written), Ukrainian;
- Excellent team working skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- High level of accuracy and reliability.
