Background:
The goal of CIDP is to assist the Government of
Ukraine and of
the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in maintaining peace and stability in
Crimea by promoting the integration of Formerly Deported
People in society. CIDP tries to achieve this goal through the following
Programme Support Objectives (PSOs):
1.
Increase
responsiveness to potential conflict areas through the establishment of a
Preventive Development Management Information System
2.
Increase tolerance
and social cohesion through education, information and culture
3.
Encourage good
governance through the process of dialogue, consensus building, participatory
decision-making and elevation of lessons learned for upstream policy
formulation;
4.
Reduce poverty and
marked economic disparities between underprivileged groups and the rest of
Crimean population through income generation and employment
creation
5.
Improve the quality
and accessibility of basic infrastructure and social
services
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Communication/Information Assistant & Translator will assist the
Communication/ Information Specialist (CIS) in ensuring that information about
CIDP activities and issues related to United Nations activities in general are
widely disseminated to the appropriate target groups and that information about
other activities relevant to CIDP and the United Nations in general is properly
collected, recorded and processed.
In addition, the CIAT will provide written and oral translations for CIDP
from English into local languages and vice versa.
The CIAT will work under the direct supervision of the
Communication/Information Specialist and overall guidance of the CIDP
International Programme Coordination (IPC). Translation tasks will take priority
over the other tasks and will be carried out at any time if and when
required.
As part of the CIDP team, the CIAT will also closely collaborate with
staff of other CIDP components.
More specifically, the CIAT will:
1.
Assist the CIS in the
development and implementation of a CIDP information and public relations
strategy at grassroots, Crimea, Ukraine and international level, ensuring maximum
outreach.
2.
Assist the CIS in the
preparation of high-quality information/promotion materials on CIDP and UN,
including reports, brochures, flyers, press releases, videos, exhibitions,
presentations, “CIDP Courier”, etc.
3.
Maintain a network of contacts with representatives of the mass
media, both local and national.
4.
Arrange interviews, TV and radio programs, and press conferences
as required.
5.
Keep records of all articles published relating to CIDP, ensure
that CIDP information corner is regularly updated and kept in good order, update
CIDP website regularly and maintain photo, video and information files on CIDP
activities.
6.
Collect and compile information on CIDP and UN and issues of
relevance to CIDP and UN and circulate this information to other CIDP staff and
UNDP.
7.
Extract, document and disseminate “lessons learned” and “best
practices” from CIDP activities.
8.
Provide high quality
written an oral translations for CIDP, UNDP staff visiting CIDP and/or
Crimea, Donor Organizations as well as other partners
visiting CIDP and/or Crimea if and when required. Translation will take
place from English into local languages and vice versa.
9.
Maintain proper
electronic and paper filing systems.
10.
Perform other duties
as assigned by the CIDP and/or UNDP management
Experience &
Qualifications:
1.
Higher degree in English language and one of the following
subjects: Public Relations, Journalism, Communication or other related fields.
Formal training in translation would be a strong asset.
2.
Excellent English and Russian language skills (written and oral).
Ability to speak, write and translate from and into Ukrainian and/or Crimean
Tatar or other relevant languages would be an advantage.
3.
At least two years of practical experience in high level
translations and/or journalism, PR, communications, etc.
4.
Excellent writing, presentation, networking and communication
skills, high level of creativity, initiative and ability to work in a team and
to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment.
5.
Advanced computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet
and desktop publishing programmes. Experience with web-page design, professional
photography, video and other media would be an asset.
6.
Affinity with United Nations’ mandate and principles.
