5. Duties and Responsibilities:

Within the structure of the NHDR Team, the Research Assistant plays an important role in the overall process of the NHDR preparation. The Research Assistant is responsible for collecting and analyzing statistical data as well as for assisting in conducting necessary research. The Research Assistant, along with other members of the NHDR Team, will be responsible for the entire NHDR process, including relations with Partners and UNDP, monitoring progress and ensuring the completion of the final product.

More specifically, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following:

1. Preparation of the Statistical Annex;

a) Preparation and elaboration of the Statistical Annex, including all the tables and graphs;

b) Analysis of the Human Development and related Indexes, in collaboration with the State Statistics Committee (SSC) partners;

c) Collection and presentation of the relevant data, materials, analytical publications, surveys and preparation of these materials for the NHDR;

d) Presentation of the data in user friendly form;

2. Monitoring and collection of statistics and indicators for the NHDR Team

a) Identify and collect high quality and reliable information from governmental, non-governmental and international sources;

b) Monitor and collect household survey and census data;

3. Conducting research and produce brief case studies for NHDR examining the impact of participatory approaches on human development;

4. Maintaining and updating the database of NHDR project contacts;

In fulfilling the above mentioned responsibilities, the Research Assistant will do the following:

a) Elaborate an action plan, specifying key products (indexes, data and deadlines);

b) Work closely with the focal points at the SSC, providing them with all the necessary materials needed for understanding and calculating the methodology of human development indexes;

c) Ensure collaboration with the focal points of the SSC and meeting deadlines as well as quality and strict adherence to the methodology;

d) Monitor closely data collection efforts and analysis;

e) Regularly follow-up and collect data flashes and regular publications of the SSC;

In addition, the Research Assistant should support the members of the NHDR Team in any other activity related to the NHDR process, including logistical and technical support for workshops, presentations, meetings and other activities.

6. Experience and Qualifications:

· Mature judgment combined with a proactive, energetic approach to problem solving and a positive outlook on life and work;

· Strong analytical and statistical skills;

· Strong organizational and time management skills;

· Resourcefulness in finding solutions;

· Master degree in economics, statistics or other relevant fields;

· Fluent English;

· Strong English, Russian and Ukrainian writing, presentation and editing skills with professional business letter writing skills;

· Knowledge of computer software, such as PowerPoint, MS Word and Excel is essential;

· Ability to work in a team;
