Systems and Network Administrator/Computer Help Desk Specialist

United Nations Development Program Office in Ukraine is seeking highly qualified professional to fill in position of Systems and Network Administrator and Computer Help Desk in the UNDP Office in Ukraine.

Basic requirements: We are seeking proactive and energetic professional to work in the UN/UNDP Office in Ukraine as a System/LAN Administrator/Computer Helpdesk. We believe that in addition to the excellent professional/technical skills and relevant experience for at least 3 years (preferably within the international organization) the applicant should be a good team-player and should have good communication skills. The incumbent should understand and share the UNDP goals and mission. Good knowledge of English is a must.

Specific technical requirements:

  • Hardware: Cisco Routers, Sun, Intel PC, HDSL.
  • Software: FreeBSD, Solaris, Linux, Novell Netware 5.0, (NDS, NDPS), Apache httpd, MySQL, Microsoft Office.
  • Skills: RIP, OSPF, DHCP, LDAP, NTP, DNS, Sendmail, SMTP, FTP, FireWall.

Scope of responsibilities:

  • Day to day administration, operation and maintenance of the office network, servers, as well as computers, including hardware and software;
  • Ensure and maintain full operational status of the office Internet-server, mail host, and computer equipment;
  • Maintenance of the uninterrupted 24 hours Internet connection and electronic mail;
  • Maintenance and update of the inventory list of the computer equipment, monitoring of the physical existence of the office hardware and software;
  • Studying of the office computer equipment requirements and working out of the recommendations on improvement of the IT-situation in the office and their implementation;
  • Consultation and technical assistance to computer users, projects and staff of the UN House in Ukraine;
  • Maintenance of the contacts with the UNDP HQs on IT related issues, including contacts with OIST and RIMs;
  • Preparation and submission of periodic reports related to the IT;
  • Introduction and implementation of new information technologies in the office with full observance of the UNDP corporate policies on IT, including software;
  • Installation, set up, configuration and de-bugging of the LAN equipment and software to full operational capacity;
  • Preparation and implementation of all necessary hardware/software configurations for full operation as a top-level LAN including workstations, file servers etc.;
  • Provide assistance to the office staff in preparation of the reports, presentations and web-site up-date;
  • Assure required equipment and settings for the presentations;
  • Train and support office staff in all varieties of tasks that require the use of the office computers (presentations, reports, graphics, electronic mail etc.);
  • Maintenance of the computer and telephone systems, provide monthly reporting on the long-distance calls to the office administration;
  • Periodic upgrade of all software resources, including mail software;
  • Provide IT-related assistance to other UN Agencies and organization under agreements with UNDP;
  • Provide technical support to the office staff, including change of cartridges and service of the printers;
  • Check for computer viruses and continuous upgrade of the anti-virus software;
  • Development and implementation of the Internet resources including: databases, WWW server etc.;
  • Prompt processing of all requests for technical assistance and hardware/software trouble shouting (computer help-desk);
  • Recording and filing of all information related to the office hardware, software, its repairing, guarantees, etc.;
  • Assistance in arranging video-conferences and conference calls;
  • Networking with IT colleagues from the region.
  • Perform other functions/tasks when required.
